The Village of Praia da Luz is situated 7 km from Lagos, on the direction to Sagres, on the 125 National Road. It´s an old fisherman´s village, a green and quiet place by the sea, just next to the border of a Natural Park, for sure an ideal place for holidays!
Most of the buildings are short and next to the beach. It´s possible to rent Villas of all kinds, with or without swimming pool, small or big apartments in condominiums that have all the facilities, like tennis courts and pool. There are also some hotels and a Campsite not far from the beach.
Luz is not a big Village but has all the services such as Pharmacy, supermarkets, Banks, Medical Centre, Post Office, restaurants and taxis. The beach is also well supplied with aquatic entertainment (Windsurf, sailing, dolphin observation boats, etc) and life guard.
For Easter Holidays and high season ( July, August) we recommend to book your accommodation in advance. Normally, prices during low season are more convenient. Wild camping and caravanism are not allowed.
Luz is very well connected to other villages and cities, by bus or taxi, has all the essential facilities to spend some confortable and relaxed holidays, so it´s a great choice for families with children.
Our Surf Safari vehicles go to the West Coast everyday, at 9.45 am, from the bus stop near the church (see SURF SAFARI/ LESSONS section), but if the conditions are good in Luz, lessons can also take place there!
The weather is very similar to Lagos, but less stifling, due to its position closer to the west. The average temperature in July is 28º and 16º in January.
The best surf season occurs during Winter time, from October to April, with big swells from West or Northwest, which turn the Saint Vincent´s Cape and bring waves to the South Coast, or even with Southwest winds that occur frequently and also bring waves to this coast. Here we have mostly sand bottom beaches and North wind is offshore. Luz is a good base but if the conditions are not right, West Coast is only a few minutes away!
